Six Students Awarded NAMTA Foundation Scholarships

Six outstanding students studying visual art or art education have been awarded scholarships by the NAMTA Foundation. The winners were announced at the NAMTA 2007 International Convention & Trade Show.

Kasee Ann Merritt from Londenderry, Ohio will attend Wright State University. Kasee will major in art education and plans to become an art teacher. In high school she was on the Dean’s Honor Roll and received the Regional Governor’s Art Award.

Hoa-Hua Nguyen from Houston, Texas will attend University of Dallas in Irving Texas. Hoa-Hua is working on degrees in Studio Art and Theology. After completing graduate school, she plans to teach.  She has received the President’s Award for Striving for Academic Excellence and was on the Dean’s List at the University of St. Thomas and Houston Community College.

Yuko Nishigaki from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania attends The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Yuko plans to be a children’s books illustrator and has won the Sanrio, Co. Ltd. Design Competition for a CD jacket in 2002 and participated in the 2005 Student Invitational Exhibition at Seattle Central Community College.

Adrienne Rempel from Vancouver, Canada attends Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in Vancouver, Canada. Adrienne plans have a career in art, continuing to paint and create throughout her life. She is currently on the Dean’s List at Emily Carr.

Lindsey Tillman from Crystal Lake, Illinois attends The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Lindsey is in the Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Art Education program and plans to be an art teacher. In high school she received the Art Award and the Art Guild Scholarship.

Holly Veselka from Houston, Texas will attend Boston University School of Visual Arts in Boston, Massachusetts as a graduate student.  Holly plans to have a career as a painter. She is a National Merit Scholar and received a BA in Art History and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas.

Founded in 2005, the NAMTA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, whose mission is to recognize, promote and support initiatives that foster the creative and visual arts through contributions, planned giving, endowments, benevolences, grants and other revenue sources, which fund art projects, art-related research, art education, scholarships and emergency relief in crisis situations where art, artists or art related enterprises are impacted by natural or manmade damage or destruction.
